Columbia Video

Had to pull a quick all night edit on this one. The trip was in July and I had shot all of the footage the week after they came back. Unfortunately after I shot it we had VBS, a ton of IT stuff happened, and I lead worship a week in there too. I was pleased with how it turned out, though in the version we showed in service I had misspelled Colombia (not the river . . . doh!).

The shoot itself was tough. I had to switch rooms in the middle of scheduled interviews. Unfortunately this meant for some inconsistnacy in lighting. The second room bounced way more light into the background so I had to sacrifice a little less light on the face to keep a dark background. Live and learn.

Beachboat 2010

Every year South Hills Church high school group goes on a house boat trip they call Beachboat. For the last couple of years I’ve done the visual design. This year was particularly fun. Jeff and Connie told me that they trust my eye and that means the world to me. There needs were:

  • 11×17 poser
  • Screen Graphic
  • Half letter handout
  • T-Shirt

Pristine Windows

My friend, Jonathan, approached me and asked me to help him out. He needed business cards, a website, and a facebook page for his business. He wanted the design to be clear and clean. No frills, no junk, not too many colors just clean. The design of the site is done it just needs to get squeezed into wordpress and it’s all his.

His business cards were the fun part. In trying to think of a way to communicate clean, we settled on a plastic card from a company called Carderizer (www.carderizer.com). They were awesome to work with and the cards were worth every penny. The design of the cards is as you see below. Very simple but effective. Wherever there’s white there was no printing, just the clear portion of the translucent card.

And for the record, Jonathan does an amazing job. He knows how to get his windows to sparkle.

Fusion

Here at South Hills Church we started a young adult ministry which we called Fusion. The idea was simple. Young adults needed a place to call their own. We wanted to create a place where young families, married, singles, college students or simply people young at heart could connect with each other. We really wanted the emphasis to be on community, real community.

I took the idea of Fusion and went with hot colors. Taking 2 particles and colliding them together creates a tremendous amount of energy. So a bright red and yellow design with a fair amount of grunginess. I think it worked well. We choose business cards with a sticker on the back as a means of communicating an invitation to the event (drop cards).

Developing Worship

My good friend Sam approached me a while back about this idea he had. It was a big dream. He wanted to create a place where worship ministry volunteers and staff and pastors could connect, encourage each other, equip each other, and share ideas. It was a big vision. He wanted to have videos where he would share his heart for worship. Looking back it’s been great to be a part of DevelopingWorship. I respect Sam so much and have learned so much from him.

Apart from all of the videos I’ve shot and cut for him I’ve done a few little pieces of design. I put together some drop cards to help promote his website when he went to the Willowcreek arts conference. These went through quite a few iterations; different fonts, backgrounds and colors. Final result:

Developing Worship Drop Cards

Side projects being what they are, sometimes it’s hard to get to the very last stages of finalization. In this case I had a hard time integrating phpBB into wordpress. 90% of the site is the forum. But I did put together a wordpress skin (from scratch) for the site. It looks nice, not quite sure why we didn’t put it out. Check it out.
